If you’re in a hurry at the grocery store, just stay calm and accept the fact that whatever line you choose will be the longest one, even though it looked the shortest. Someone will want to write a check, use excessive coupons, or the cash register or credit card machine will malfunction and require servicing. Just don’t get all bent out of shape when it happens.

In fact, you should surprise everyone by actually looking quite patient, or even courteous and helpful.
